What will I learn?

The Master of Design in Fashion Design programme is designed to meet the ambitions of motivated fashion graduates who wish to extend, develop and refine their design practice. The programme develops resourceful and independently minded designers who challenge and interrogate the field of fashion in new and innovative ways, taking inventive, rule-breaking approaches to surface and silhouette. The programme encourages students to consider the human form as a limitless opportunity for creative expression and to develop an individual visual language accordingly. Those who focus on a surface approach are guided to create rectilinear textile forms and then work intuitively and sculpturally on the body, exploring the inherent qualities of the fabrics. Students concentrating on silhouette are encouraged to take experimental and imaginative approaches to three-dimensional form, cut, shape and construction methods.Throughout the programme, students embrace a playful, unrestrained dress-up box approach to fashion subverting and disrupting craft and clothing conventions. The programme supports students in moving effortlessly and expertly between 2D and 3D, making spontaneous and reasoned responses, considering the outermost and innermost details, and designing responsibly for optimum social, environmental and cultural impact.
