This degree is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer. Combining the theoretical and practical, this course will build your knowledge of electronic, mechanical and computer technologies and their applications. From digital electronics and the Internet of Things to augmented reality, software engineering and machine learning, you’ll explore key topics. Benefit from learning in our state-of-the-art building with a Design Centre and the Makerspace practical facility. With our Integrated Design Projects, you can work alongside mechanical and civil engineers to develop designs for technologies that impact the world. In your final year, you’ll deepen your specialist knowledge with a project that can be linked to industry. Get ready for an exciting future using your expertise as an Electrical Engineer. You'll receive plenty of feedback to help you progress, ranging from written feedback on your assessments to class feedback sessions and discussions with your tutor. The feedback will highlight the positives of your work as well as any areas that need more attention. You'll be assigned a personal tutor who'll remain with you throughout your studies to help you in three important areas: supporting your academic progress, developing transferable skills and dealing with any welfare issues. You'll also need to undertake a considerable amount of self study. It's an essential part of the programme, which requires self motivation and enthusiasm for your subject. It also allows you to pursue your own lines of enquiry and become an independent thinker.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants are required to achieve AAA at A level including Mathematics, or 6,6,6 at Higher Level in the IB (including Mathematics) with 32 points overall. BTEC qualifications are considered, with the BTEC Extended Diploma accepted for MEng programmes if sufficient Mathematics content is included and the Mathematics Aptitude Test is successfully completed, requiring D*D*D* plus Distinction in Mathematics and Further Mathematics. A BTEC Diploma in combination with an A level requires D*D* plus grade A in A-level Mathematics with successful completion of the aptitude test, while a BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in combination with two A levels requires D* plus AA including Mathematics alongside successful completion of the aptitude test. A total of three A levels are required, with Mathematics being compulsory, and General Studies is not normally accepted, although a strong performance in this subject may be considered if an applicant marginally fails to meet the conditions of the offer.
