What will I learn?

This multidisciplinary Crime Science with Data Science MSc combines crime science methodology with the latest data science approaches. During this programme, you will find practical applications for the latest data science tools and techniques and harness a range of groundbreaking new technologies to help fight crime. Join us on this exciting data-driven Crime Science with Data Science MSc and learn how to put some of the world’s most sought-after technology skills to good use as you master the foundations of security and crime science. Working alongside leading experts at the world’s first crime science research institution, you’ll immerse yourself in the practical application of world-changing technologies such as machine learning, natural language processing and spatial analysis. You’ll learn how to find the data you need through advanced data collection techniques including text mining, web scraping and modelling, assembling datasets across a range of interrelated disciplines of social, life and physical sciences. You’ll employ multivariate analysis as an investigative statistical tool, learning to identify trends and analyse relationships between large and diverse datasets. With or without prior experience of coding, you’ll acquire core programming skills. Working in interactive computer lab sessions, you’ll explore how virtual reality and agent-based models are used to analyse offender decisions and behaviour. To help you implement these data-driven approaches, you’ll develop a deep understanding of the theories, processes and applications of crime prevention.
