What will I learn?

This course prepares you to start your career as a new teacher and be successful. You’ll learn to teach in schools in East or West Sussex, Brighton & Hove, Surrey, Hampshire or Kent. You’ll develop your skills as a reflective practitioner. We use an innovative range of assessment modes that enable you to succeed. School-led teacher education is run by experienced mentors and professional tutors. You’ll be supported by University tutors throughout the year. We have an excellent record of graduate employment. Our employability records surpass national benchmarks. Accreditation When you successfully complete this degree, the University of Sussex, as a UK-Government-accredited Initial Teacher Training (ITT) provider, will recommend you for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). QTS is conferred by the Teacher Regulation Agency in England. The PGCE academic award is conferred by the University of Sussex.

Entry requirements

For international students

Degree requirements: You should normally have a lower second-class (2.2) undergraduate honours degree or above. Subject-specific requirements: You will need: a strong knowledge and understanding of Primary education, and a sound awareness of current issues in state English Primary schools; a degree in a subject related to the Primary national curriculum, or a related subject such as child development, psychology, etc. Your qualification must be from an approved Higher Education institution or validating body; GCSE English, Mathematics and a science subject at grade C (or equivalent).
