What will I learn?

The global sport industry is an important, growing and diverse area of employment, particularly in relation to management, development, politics, commerce and governance. This programme prepares you for a career in these and other professional areas within sport and sport-related fields.

Our MSc Sport Management, Politics and International Development will provide you with a strong critical understanding of sport management, sport politics and sport development in an international context. It is taught by our diverse team of staff who are recognised globally for their research and teaching in these areas. Our team is committed to equipping you with the knowledge and skills to work in the global sport industries and in wider sport-related fields of employment.

Our academic staff have undertaken projects with many leading organisations including the Commonwealth Secretariat, European Commission, International Olympic Committee, International Paralympic Committee, UK Sport and various United Nations agencies.

In undertaking our MSc, you will be joining the University ranked first in the world for sport-related subjects (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2020), and also a welcoming and genuinely international learning environment for postgraduate study. The School’s large community of postgraduate students is typically drawn from over 20 countries, while staff have extensive international training, research and teaching experience.

The programme draws on our strong ties across the sport sector and with sport-related organisations in business, government, and non-profit fields. Key representatives from these organisations will contribute to the programme through guest lectures and/or via supporting other collaborative learning opportunities for postgraduate students, adding further value to your studies.

Our MSc Sport Management, Politics and International Development addresses a wide range of contemporary issues, social scientific theories and research methods with relevance at local, national and global levels. It will suit students aspiring to pursue careers in different areas of the sport industry, particularly in sport management, sport policy/politics, and sport development, as well as those interested in pursuing further postgraduate research.

Entry requirements

For international students

A 2:1 honours degree (or equivalent international qualification) in a wide range of disciplines including sports science, social science, arts, engineering, sciences and other technical disciplines. The standard University IELTS English language requirement is 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each individual element (reading, writing, listening and speaking). TOEFL: Overall score of 92, with not less than 22 in each test.
