What will I learn?

Discover the power and reach of digital, written and broadcast media as you are introduced to modern sports journalism. This course focuses on the practices, contexts and key theories within the sports journalism industry. During it, you will examine sports journalism in depth and explore the role played by digital media - reflecting current and emerging industry trends. You will develop a range of essential skills, including writing and broadcasting in multiplatform environments to enhance your versatility to work in a range of areas within the expanding sports media industry. We are ideally placed for access to a host of the football Premier League’s biggest teams and rugby’s Super League heavyweights based in the region, and for racing enthusiasts there is Chester Racecourse. We also have strong links with a range of sports clubs including league and non-league football, basketball and cricket, and rugby union. Students therefore have extensive opportunities to gain matchday experience and see their work published. We have newsrooms dedicated to journalism, and you will be expected to regularly pursue stories and develop contacts away from the classroom to assist with content for assignments and your professional portfolio.Following the opportunity to undertake a five-week placement in Year 2 of the course, Year 3 sees students work closely with a sports club to produce exclusive content.
