About this course

What will I learn?

The PSM in Applied Nutrition offers two tracks: Dietetics, which leads to the registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) credential and Nutrition and Wellness, if you are interested in the nutrition, health and wellness fields. The 30-unit, 12-month, ACEND-accredited Dietetics track requires specified coursework and 1,000 supervised experiential learning hours. The 30-unit Nutrition and Wellness track can be completed in less than 24 months and requires foundational and elective courses, along with a 270-hour capstone project. Graduates of both programs develop essential skills for careers in nutrition-related roles in the public and private sectors.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants to the PSM in Applied Nutrition - Dietetics Emphasis program must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • BS or BA from an accredited institution
  • DPD verification statement OR specified pre-requisite coursework
  • Required pre-requisite coursework with a grade of C or higher:
    • Anatomy/physiology (2 semesters of anatomy/physiology i.e. PSIO 201 & 202)
    • Biochemistry 1 semester (course must require organic chemistry as pre-requisite)
    • Medical Nutrition Therapy/Clinical Nutrition minimum 2 semesters (must include Nutrition Care Process and Terminology) - if taken at University of Arizona, must take 3 course MNT series (NSC 325, 425, 435)
    • Food Science 1 semester
    • Macronutrient Metabolism 1 semester
    • Food Service Management 1 semester OR Serv-Safe Manager Certification
    • Statistics
  • Recommended pre-requisite coursework:
    • Community/Public Health Nutrition
    • Counseling/Nutrition Counseling
    • Additional Coursework in Medical Nutrition Therapy/Clinical Nutrition
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA overall in undergraduate degree or over the last 60 units of enrollment
