Early childhood education involves learning and supports for children from birth through age 8 and includes a range of pre-kindergarten through third grade settings. Preschool, kindergarten and primary-school teachers introduce children to foundational knowledge and skills in mathematics, language, science and social studies. They play a vital role in their students’ development. What children learn and experience during their early years will shape their views of themselves and the world, and can affect their later success or failure in school, work and their personal lives.
