What will I learn?

Western Michigan University offers a major in communication studies for students who want to deepen their understanding of written, spoken and electronic communication. As a communication studies student at WMU, you'll take courses in mass media, corporate and organizational communication, interpersonal relationships, group dynamics, and leadership and social influence.WMU offers communication-related student organizations as general as the communication studies degree, and as specific as you want to get. The Public Relations Organization provides opportunities in corporate and organizational communication, event planning, promotions, media relations and other functions of the public relations profession. WIDR, the campus radio station, and the Western Herald, WMU's student newspaper, will keep you on top of campus information and events. They're also known well beyond campus for providing students with tremendous real-world experience through high-profile positions.

Entry requirements

For international students

A first-year applicant is a student who is applying for admission and who has not attempted or earned any college credit after graduating from high school/secondary school (or earned equivalent).

Minimum English proficiency test scores:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): 71 iBT

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic: 6.0

Pearson Test of English, Academic Module (PTE): 48

Michigan English Test (MET): 48

Application deadlines:

Fall: June 15; Spring: October 15
