BA in Liberal Arts: Medicine, Health and Society

Great program for students preparing to enter the health care industry. Students will be able to identify, analyze, and resolve moral, policy, cultural, and social conflicts as they might arise in the care of patients. These future health professionals will be able to identify and promote policies and practices that ensure scientific research, health care delivery, and technological innovation are conducted in a socially and ethically responsible manner. They will also appreciate how bioscience and health care take place within cultural and social contexts and how culture interacts with an individual’s experience of illness and the way medicine is practiced.Students must complete two of the following three certificates: 15CERT2-BIOE (Bioethics), 15CERT2-MEDH (Medical Humanities), 15CERT2-MINH (Minority Health). In addition students musts complete a minor in Anthropology, English, History, Philosophy, or Sociology OR complete 15CERT2-PMED (the premedical certificate). Credit hours may vary according to the choices students make. For each certificate or minor included in this degree program, at least 9 credit hours must apply only to that certificate/minor and not to either of the other two. Each certificate/minor must include at least one course at the 3000 level or above.
