BA with a Major in English: Fees & Entry Requirements at University of Illinois Chicago, USA

BA with a Major in English

USA

What will I learn?

Students majoring in English are introduced to a multitude of cultural, historical, political, and critical perspectives. Students leave the major with increased research skills and heightened theoretical acumen. They also graduate with sharpened analytical abilities, and, of course, a deeper sense of what makes for effective communication, both in oral and written forms, all of which are in high demand in the private and public employment sectors.

As an important complement to our curriculum, most of our majors also participate in a robust Internship program. Interns receive hands-on work experience in such places as ESPN, Amnesty International USA, the Field Museum, McGraw-Hill, NBC, Today’s Chicago Woman magazine, Newberry Library, the Council on American-Islamic Association, and the Daily Herald newspaper, to name but a few opportunities.

CONCENTRATIONS AVAILABLE: Literatures in English, Creative Writing (Fiction, Poetry, or Nonfiction), Film, Media, Performance, and Pop Culture, Professional Writing and Publishing, Race, Gender, Sexuality, and Multiethnic English Studies, Rhetoric, Public Engagement, and Language Studies.
