BA in Secondary Education Communication and Theatre Arts Teaching

Successful completion of this course of study, in the context of other program requirements, results in a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree and qualifies the student for a recommendation for the Michigan Department of Education Secondary Standard Certificate endorsed in speech, certification code BD, and, depending on the minor selected, an additional endorsement. Students will develop a comprehensive understanding of Communication, Media, and Theatre Arts associated with teaching these subjects at the secondary level. Closely coordinated with the Michigan Teacher Certification exam in Speech, students will be well equipped to teach in these academic areas and to direct co-curricular activities such as debate, forensics, theatre, and school broadcasting. Students will be prepared to develop curriculum, lessons, activities, assignments, and assessment tools for high school programs in each of these areas.
