What will I learn?

Western Michigan University's social studies major offers students opportunities to pursue broad, interdisciplinary approaches to social science perspectives. The major provides students with exposure to courses that will prepare them for teaching and non-teaching careers. The major will also supply the content foundation necessary for students hoping to pass the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) and apply for the new Western Michigan University MAT program. As a social studies student at Western, you will be required to complete 64 to 65 credits in the major with no minor necessary. Included in the coursework is a 3-credit internship. You can also gain valuable networking and professional development opportunities through student and community organizations, including Phi Alpha Theta, the Department of History's honor society.
