What will I learn?

Program Learning Outcomes for the BA Degree with a Major in Architectural Studies Upon completing the BA degree with a major in Architectural Studies, students will be able to: Gain knowledge of the history and theory of architecture in relation to broader social, technological, and cultural practices and transformations. Understand the design process in architecture through a variety of scales and problems and with an appreciation of design’s importance in the quality of our cities and environment. Explore and develop specific interests concerning the discipline and/or its relationship to other fields and endeavors.

Official high school transcript in English (or a certified English translation): Students who have elected to take time off from schooling between graduating from high school and enrolling in college are considered first-year applicants. Completion of a high school diploma (or an equivalent) prior to enrolment is required for all new incoming studentsRecommendation Letters: School Counsellor, Teacher 1, Teacher 2. Applicants interested in the Rice School of Architecture must submit a portfolio of creative work. Portfolios should be uploaded via your Rice Admission Student Portal. Note: Submissions exceeding the specifications listed below will not be accepted.The portfolio should demonstrate creative potential and is not expected to be architectural in focus nor professional in quality. It may include examples of sketches, paintings, photography, models, etc. Architectural or design work may be included, but examples of mechanical or computer drafting are discouraged. Rice School of Architecture does not accept CDs or DVDs.Portfolio specifications:PDF file labeled with applicant name (example: JaneDoe.pdf)15 MB maximum file sizePage size should be horizontally oriented A4 or Letter (8.5” x 11”); images should be between 150dpi and 300 dpiThe first page should be a cover/title page with the applicants nameContent can be up to 10 pages (not including the title page); more than one image or work can be included per pageCaption each image or project including title, media, year and setting (independent or group work, high school art class, architecture summer program, etc.). A one to two sentence description may also be included but is not required
