What will I learn?

By studying the earth sciences, you will study the planet, the processes that change our landscapes, the history of life and the interactions between environment and society. You will gain the practical and in-demand skills to collect scientific data, inform policy decisions and study the environmental impacts of things like fracking, oil and natural gas extraction, renewable resources, climate change, and more. Earth science graduates are in high demand with starting salaries ranging from 50,000 to 100,000 annually. Graduates of the Earth Sciences B.A. program will be able to: Demonstrate mastery of core concepts in Earth system science. Integrate concepts from other relevant fields as appropriate to understand geological processes and the Earth system. Apply knowledge and critical thinking skills to identify a scientific problem and describe a strategy to address it. Effectively communicate scientific ideas, knowledge, and results. Demonstrate familiarity with sources of scientific information and the use of scientific literature in geosciences and related fields.

Applicants to the University must be graduates of accredited secondary schools or have equivalent credentials. Specifically, for post-secondary, degree-seeking programs, we consider for admission students who

  • have the recognized equivalent of a high school diploma; or
  • are beyond the age of compulsory secondary school attendance in Delaware.
