What will I learn?

The State of Illinois has a shortage of elementary teachers. At Lewis University, the Elementary Education program prepares students to obtain an Illinois Professional Educator’s license, earn an endorsement in English as a Second Language (ESL) and to teach grades 1-6. Additionally, Lewis is partnered with more than 60 school districts, seven counties and 130 schools in the Chicago area, allowing students to become exposed to a variety of cultures and communities during their observation hours. The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) grants professional educator licenses in the State of Illinois. All teacher candidates who successfully complete an approved teacher education program at Lewis University, pass appropriate licensure exams, and meet current ISBE requirements will be recommended for licensure. This does not lead to licensure in other states. Teacher candidates are responsible for checking the requirements of the state in question.
