What will I learn?

The Journalism program at Cal Poly Humboldt is designed to prepare students for a career in journalism, broadcasting, public relations or related field. It provides students with an understanding of the rights, responsibilities and role of the mass media and helps students develop better critical thinking skills. We prepare students for graduate or law school. Our classes are small, which allows us to give students our individual attention. We provide effective mentoring, advising and career counseling. We guide our students through their university career because we want them to succeed. The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication offers the Bachelor of Arts degree with two areas of concentration: news and public relations. In our skills courses, students gain experience gathering, writing and producing the news.
