The field of operations and supply chain management originated in manufacturing (where it is called production management) and deals with the management of productive activities. In manufacturing, the creation of physical products is the primary focus in recent years, the concepts and techniques of operations and supply chain management have been increasingly applied to the creation of services, extending to most types of productive systems.
