Supply chain management exemplifies the conscious effort by supply chain firms to create and run supply chains in the most effective and efficient ways possible. Supply chains consist of a variety of local and global organizations who coordinate their activities to design, manufacture and deliver products and services. Supply chain activities include everything from product development, sourcing, production and logistics to the information systems needed to coordinate these activities. Every organization, whether public, private, manufacturing or service, has a supply chain management function. Supply chain management is a fast-growing area of business dealing with the active management of supply chain activities to maximize customer value and achieve a sustainable competitive advantage. The supply chain management specialization at SIUE prepares students to: Understand and manage supply chains, Analyze and improve business processes, Implement lean systems, Analyze data for decision making, Proficiently negotiate and resolve conflicts, Apply practical knowledge in supply chains. The specialization curriculum prepares students for the rapidly expanding role of supply chain specialists in organizations by providing a solid foundation of the concepts and decisions made, exploring quantitative tools to make decisions and providing practical experience.
