Research in the Department interfaces Chemical Engineering with the biological sciences and emphasizes biomolecular and metabolic engineering in addition to biocatalysis. Our faculty engineer proteins, develop biosensors, and harness synthetic biology. Developing diagnostic point-of-care sensors, understanding and designing therapies at the cellular level for curing cancer and infectious disease are other research excellence areas in this domain.
