In a world of increasingly complex problems and resource limitations, there is a need for scholars who are qualified both to train the next generation of professionals for public service and to expand society's store of knowledge about public management and public policy analysis. Our program provides students with high quality research and teaching experiences. Doctoral students of public administration become active researchers beginning in their first year as part of their research apprenticeship under the direction of their faculty advisor. Many, depending on their area of specialty, conduct their research in one of Maxwell's 14 established interdisciplinary research centers, or myriad research opportunities working with faculty or institutes across campus. Our students - Gain substantial competency in the core subject matter and methodologies that are central to preparation for the Ph.D. in public administration.Obtain a firm understanding of the broad intellectual tradition of public administration.Become active researchers beginning in the first year of the program.

Entry requirements
For international students
Admission to the Ph.D. in public administration program is highly selective. Successful candidates have:
a completed master of public administration or masters in a related field, or equivalent graduate credits to enter the Ph.D. program
strong academic records;
professional experience in management and policy research and;
a commitment to further developing the research skills necessary for careers in academic or policy research organizations.
The benchmark scores for recent Ph.D. candidates are:
GPAs above 3.88
GRE: 159 Verbal, 163 Quantitative, 4.5 Analytical Writing
