Graduate Certificate in Pastoral Counseling

USA

What will I learn?

Many individuals who seek out counseling and therapeutic services feel more comfortable doing so within a faith-based context or in a spiritual setting. The Graduate Certificate in Pastoral Counseling at Loyola's Institute of Pastoral Studies (IPS) is designed to meet the needs of mental health professionals and religious leaders who want to deliver this counseling ministry to those in need. The program instills in you the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively provide this unique form of psychotherapy, using spiritual resources, in-depth theological training, and psychological understanding to foster healing and growth with your clients. As a graduate of the Pastoral Counseling Certificate program, you will be prepared to join other priests, chaplains, rabbis, and practicing counseling professionals in providing these critical therapeutic services to individuals in need.As a pastoral counselor, you will have the opportunity to practice in any number of religious and non-religious settings, from hospitals, hospice facilities, private practice, correctional facilities, domestic violence centers, and substance abuse programs to parishes, churches, and other faith-based settings.Because Loyola is a member of the Jesuit network of 27 colleges and universities nationwide, our graduates can access career advising services, resume and interviewing assistance, career fairs and events, and employment listings in our Career Services center, as well as at career centers at other U.S. Jesuit colleges and universities.
