The University of Central Missouri's Occupational Safety BS - Environmental Management degree option empowers you to positively impact your workplace and our world. As a safety professional, you’ll protect people while preventing harm to the workplace and the environment.

Our Occupational Safety degree in Environmental Management is one of just 24 accredited programs in the United States that offers a bachelor’s degree in safety programs.

Earn a degree and your GSP designation

UCM’s Occupational Safety degree is accredited by the Applied and Natural Science Accreditation Commission (ANSAC) of ABET and is a Qualified Academic Program (QAP) through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP). Graduates from our Occupational Safety, Health Safety and Environment degree programs are eligible for the Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP) designation.

Choose part-time and online course options

UCM’s Occupational Safety degree in Environmental Management is a four-year degree program open to full- or part-time students. All undergraduate program courses are offered on campus, but some courses are offered in hybrid and online formats. Summer courses are all online.

What you will study

As an occupational safety - environmental management major at the University of Central Missouri, you’ll take a mix of core and elective health safety and environment degree courses in areas such as safety leadership, risk management, industrial hygiene, statistical analysis for risk management, environmental management, system safety and ergonomics.

Core courses for our health, safety and environment degrees include:

Exploring the Safety Sciences: Get an overview of safety as an academic endeavor, including consideration of the subdisciplines of safety, requirements of students and career opportunities.

Industrial Hygiene: Understand how to recognize, evaluate and control workplace health hazards.

Environmental Compliance: Dive into a comprehensive study of federal and state environmental legislation and standards that protect the health and safety of citizens.

The Occupational Safety degree in Environmental Management also includes courses in SAFE coursework, industrial ventilation for environmental safety and health, environmental air quality and pollution prevention, water quality and waste water management and environmental remediation.

Through this diverse program coursework, you gain valuable environmental management job skills in developing control strategies, conducting accident investigations, creating risk reduction plans and increasing the impact of safety, health and environmental (SH&E) solutions in a global and societal context.

Entry requirements

For international students

Students must have a 2.0 high school GPA or above to be admissible. If the applicant has taken undergraduate coursework the cumulative GPA of the undergraduate coursework must be a 2.0 or higher to be admissible.

IELTS exam score of 5.5

Duolingo composite exam score of 95

UCM Proficiency Test of 61

Cambridge C1/B2 exam score of 162
