What will I learn?

The Ph.D. in Persian and Iranian Studies prepares you for work in institutions of higher education where expert knowledge of Iran and other Persian-speaking societies is required. The degree focuses on modern or classical Persian literature and culture, as well as history, religion, social organization and politics in Iran and other Persian-speaking societies. Earning the Ph.D. requires core and elective coursework and a dissertation. You will work with a faculty advisor for your dissertation and present your scholarship during a dissertation defense. Fourth-year proficiency in Persian is required, as is reading knowledge of French, German or another relevant language.
