What will I learn?

This degree is taught in ASU’s Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, which is internationally ranked for the quality of its teacher preparation programs. In fact, ASU began as an institution for training teachers. The Bachelor of Arts program in social and cultural analysis with a concentration in women and gender studies offers students a transdisciplinary curriculum that focuses on the diverse experiences of women in national and international contexts. The program also examines the meaning of gender as a socially constructed category that shapes personal identities, beliefs, opportunities and behaviors. The wide variety of classes explores the intersections of gender, race, class and sexuality the institutional structures that have an impact on women's and men's lives and the broad range of feminist theories that seek to explain and influence women's status in society. Areas of emphasis include gender and sexuality, critical race feminism, gender and the borderlands, transnational feminism, social activism and social movements, histories of feminism and critical embodiment studies.

Entry requirements

For international students

3.0 GPA or equivalent. Must have three years of high school coursework. (If you are currently in high school, ASU needs to see 9–11 grade coursework. If you have completed high school, ASU needs to see 10–12 grade coursework.) Must have and present a completed high school diploma or certificate.
