What will I learn?

Earn your master’s in Sustainable Urban Development and explore how cities cope with the demand for environmental sustainability while supporting economic growth and social justice. The program is framed by a simple value-that a sustainable city is one that’s sustainable for everyone. You will look at sustainability holistically, researching urban environments as an integrated system. Beyond theoretical knowledge, you’ll gain a technical foundation using industry-standard Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping software.Courses are offered in the evening and the program can be completed in two years.The MA in Sustainable Urban Development may also be expanded to include select graduate certificate programs covering particular areas of interest. Students participating in a combined MA/certificate program should consult with their academic advisor to determine what coursework might count toward both programs. A separate application process for the certificate is required. Entry requirements

For international students

To be eligible for the sustainable urban development program, students must hold a bachelors degree from a regionally accredited college or university. In addition, successful applicants will demonstrate a strong academic record, coursework and/or professional experience in sustainable development or related fields, and an interest in pursuing a career related to sustainable urban development. To apply, please submit the following:
  • a completed online application;
  • official transcripts from all colleges and/or universities attended;
  • a current CV or resume;
  • a two-page personal statement that reflects on a students past coursework and/or experiences in sustainable development and related fields, discusses future goals, and explains why this particular program appeals to them;
  • an application to the MA in Sustainable Urban Development does not require the GRE, LSAT or GMAT.
Students educated outside of the United States where English is not the official native language must present evidence of English proficiency.
