The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is 6th on the QS Top 50 under 50 2021 list. It is an ambitious and diverse institution recognised worldwide for its academic reputation, student-to-faculty ratio, research citations, employer reputation and international student ratio.
PolyU courses meet student expectations, providing an all-round exposure to them. International exchange programmes and research projects are a key part of course curricula. A range of projects is dealt with at PolyU, including some ‘star projects’ in green biodiesel production, rehabilitation sleeve and fashion design.
PolyU’s research has an impact in various different fields, particularly energy storage, tourism service, tendon degeneration, fibre-optic and nano-coating.
PolyU has established a global network with more than 270 overseas universities/institutions spanning 36 countries and regions. The university has close to 450 academic collaboration agreements, ranging from student exchange arrangements to joint research collaborations.
PolyU boasts world-class facilities and resources, including the 5-star luxury hotel ‘Hotel ICON’, which is a teaching and learning centre for students studying tourism and hospitality courses. Engineering students can gain hands-on learning at the university’s ‘Industrial Centre’, and design students get to experiment with their creativity at the ‘Hong Kong Jockey Club Innovation Tower’.

Non-local graduates who wish to stay in HKSAR for employment are eligible to apply for the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG) to stay for one year to look for a job.

All applicants are required to pay a HK$ 450 application fee.
Students must log in to the system frequently to check for updates. They will be informed when additional documents are required. An interview may be necessary, and this is usually arranged online.
Successful applicants will receive their admission offer online. Admission results are usually announced from late January to May. Scholarship results will be announced at the same time.
Undergraduate programme application for September intake 2023 has commenced. PolyU Entry Scholarships remain open for application on a rolling basis and applicants are encouraged to apply early. International students can make their online application here.

Innovation, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit are part of the PolyU DNA. Its specially designed courses include internships and service learning. Every day, students gain the skills and experiences they need to respond, adapt and identify applications for their knowledge in the real world.
PolyU has strong partnerships with industries and universities both internationally and in Hong Kong. These collaborations provide valuable opportunities for academic and cultural exchange, internships and job placements.
Graduates leave PolyU with the skills and knowledge required in their chosen fields. This translates to high employment rates – 100 percent of PolyU graduates are employed within 6 months or less or pursue further study as per its graduate employment survey of 2020. Employers highly value the skillset that PolyU students have.
Non-local graduates are able to stay in Hong Kong after graduation for up to 12 months to look for a job and explore their career options. With so many different industries and sectors, many students find themselves drawn to the prospect of working in the city – or even setting up their own business.
Fast becoming a hub of entrepreneurial activity, Hong Kong has the infrastructure in place to offer the support and funding opportunities start-ups need to kick-start their ventures.

PolyU recognises the achievements of outstanding prospective and current students. Applicants who wish to be considered for a PolyU Entry Scholarship should complete an application form via eAdmission. Those who are awarded scholarships will be notified when they are offered a place at PolyU.
This scholarship is for students who have performed outstandingly at secondary school, prior to studying at PolyU. An interview is required for scholarship applicants. Recipients of this scholarship will receive up to a maximum of HK$ 195,000 per annum to cover tuition fees, accommodation fees and portion of living expenses. Scholarships are renewable every year subject to academic standing in PolyU.
Outstanding applicants in the areas of sports, arts and culture, leadership and community services and STEM subjects are exceptionally considered for admissions to PolyU. The school launched the Special Talents Admission and Recognition Scheme (STARS) to open more doors to those aforementioned students.

The university is committed to promoting learning and teaching initiatives by using the Teaching Development Grants (TDGs) to support projects either at the faculty/departmental or subject levels. The fundamental objective of the projects is to improve the quality of teaching and learning to achieve student learning outcomes, i.e. all-round development of the PolyU students.
PolyU values good teaching. It has established policies and mechanisms to ensure high quality in the staff it recruits, monitoring teaching quality, and recognising and rewarding staff appropriately for their accomplishments in teaching. It has also set up an institutional structure for promoting quality teaching and provides a wide range of staff development programmes and activities to empower staff to continually improve their teaching and, ultimately, their students’ learning.
During 2022-2023, PolyU ranked 65th in the QS World University Rankings and 79th in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings internationally. In the QS "Top 50 Under 50" list of world's top young universities 2021, PolyU is ranked 6th in the world and 3rd in Hong Kong.
Student life at PolyU is enjoyable and rewarding. Numerous events take place throughout the year, such as Global Village, Mass Dance Competition, inter-hall activities, field trips etc. Whatever their interests or hobbies, students will find like minds to join them.
Work-Integrated Education (WIE) is work-based learning experiences which take place in an organisational context relevant to a student’s future profession, or the development of generic skills that will be valuable in that profession. PolyU has pioneered work-integrated programmes in the undergraduate curriculum.
Service-Learning (SL) is where professional education meets societal needs. SL provides students with opportunities to serve the underprivileged, using their professional knowledge and skills in Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and overseas.
Global Learning Opportunities - PolyU encourages undergraduates to actively explore and engage in opportunities outside the university campus. These include student exchange, clinical exchange, summer programmes, undergraduate summer research abroad sponsorship, conferences and competitions, short-term study tours and a variety of international activities. The university provides financial assistance to help students broaden their international perspective.
PolyU’s Leadership Programme offers credit-bearing courses with content ranging from corporate leadership to interpersonal development. Every year PolyU welcomes more than 2,000 students to embark on the journey of becoming future global leaders.

The university boasts world-class facilities. One of the examples is its teaching and research hotel, Hotel ICON, which is a 5-star luxury hotel and also a training ground for tourism and hospitality students. This offers its students the opportunity to work, learn and conduct research in a real, operating hotel.
The Industrial Centre allows its engineering students to gain hands-on training to complement their theoretical studies.
Design students enjoy working in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Innovation Tower, designed by world-renowned architect, Zaha Hadid. It has state-of-the-art workshop spaces, design studios, lecture halls and classrooms as well as exhibition spaces.
