Nagoya University

Established in 1871, Nagoya University originated from the Temporary Medical School/Public Hospital. The university became part of the Imperial University of Japan in 1939 and consisted of the School of Medicine and the School of Science and Engineering. Nagoya was established as a comprehensive university when Japan rebuilt itself after the war and was soon known for adventurous researchers, a free and vibrant academic culture and a reputation for original and high-quality research. This energy has been handed down to its students, leading to outstanding research as represented by the six Nagoya University faculty members who have been awarded Nobel Prizes. Nagoya University is located in the Tokai region, one of the leading areas for industry in Japan, from where a host of industry leaders and experts have emerged.
