Who is eligible?

  • This scholarship is open to students who are enrolled or intending to enrol full-time or part-time, in a Masters by thesis or a PhD in Criminology at Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington.
  • A recipient of this scholarship who is not already enrolled in a programme for a Master of Criminology (MCrim) or a PhD in Criminology and should normally be enrolled in such a programme by 31 March in the year following application.
  • A recipient who is unable to enrol by the applicable deadline must seek permission from the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences to take up the scholarship at a later date. Without this permission the award will be terminated.

  • Academic excellence
  • Financial need/hardship

Selection criteria

The Committee will consider:

  • the nature of the applicant’s expression of research interest (aim, objectives, context, sample, methods and anticipated contribution to New Zealand) or, in the case of an applicant who has already commenced a thesis for an MA or PhD in Criminology, the submission of a progress report; and
  • the applicant’s potential contribution to the academic discipline and the Institute of Criminology.
  • Financial hardship may also be taken into consideration.
