Family member is defined as grandparent, parent, sibling, child or spouse.
If your family member is a SOAS graduate or alumni, they must have completed any of the following degrees at SOAS: Foundation, Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught, or Postgraduate Research degree (summer school, short or online learning courses are not eligible.
Restrictions and exemptions
The reduction only applies to the first year of a full-time course or equivalent part-time enrolment (must be applied for within the academic year and will not be backdated).
Please note that you cannot receive the SOAS Family Discount if you have already received another discount from the University, such as the Alumni discount.
You need to apply separately for this scholarship
Eligible students can apply after they accept their offer to study at SOAS by completing our Family discount application form. You will be asked to provide documentary evidence of your relationship such as a photocopy of birth or marriage certificate to fees@soas.ac.uk.
If approved, the discount will be applied automatically once you have enrolled. For new admissions starting in September 2026 you will see the discount in the Financial Overview section of the admissions portal. Please deduct the discount amount when paying your tuition fees.
