London South Bank University (LSBU) has roots stretching all the way back to 1892, and has dedicated itself to improving the lives of students, businesses and the community ever since its establishment. The university’s original aim of promoting general knowledge, industrial skill, health and well-being of young people remains central to its mission even in the current day.
LSBU is home to more than 2,000 international students representing over 130 nationalities, and offers courses across three campuses – at Southwark, Croydon and Havering. All of LSBU’s courses are professionally accredited or developed in collaboration with professional bodies and potential employers, with whom the university has enduring links. LSBU’s practical approach ensures that students leave equipped with the skills to meet the varied challenges of the global workplace.
LSBU offer excellent facilities to complement the diverse courses on offer. State-of-the-art library, well-equipped laboratories and workshops and a modern media centre are just some of the numerous facilities on offer. The university has invested GBP 65 million into developing new social spaces to help students with academics and their wellbeing. One highlight is the award winning ‘LSBU Hub’, with its group and self-study areas, and cafes and places to meet up with friends.
LSBU is also a partner to industry and has been awarded the Entrepreneurial University of the Year award at the Times Higher Education Awards, in light of the entrepreneurial support that it provides to students, graduates and staff.

The university understands that one of the primary concerns for students applying for a university degree will be finances, so there is ample support available to guide students through their application and with further funding help throughout students’ time in London.
Part of this support comes in the form of scholarships – there are several available for international students which can cover tuition fees or other aspects of university life, such as accommodation, books, or travel expenses. Some of these scholarships are awarded in recognition of academic talent or hard work, while others are available to all.
The university also offers financial advice through its support teams, including help with budgeting and finding part-time work that fits around studies. While all international students will have to provide proof of funding when applying, there is a recognition that students may still need help with additional income – the university can signpost to opportunities and help with applications.
The entry requirements for study at LSBU can vary depending on the student’s chosen course, but as a guideline for international students, high school transcripts (or equivalent) must be submitted alongside the application. Unlike domestic students living in the UK, international students apply directly to the university, so students can find all the information they need on the process on the university’s website.
Several intake dates may be available, allowing for students to begin their studies at a time to suit them depending on the course they choose. The course will also dictate whether any specific admission requirements apply, such as providing a portfolio of work.
As all courses at LSBU are taught in English, students applying from a country where English is not the primary language will have to also provide test scores through an approved language partner. The minimum scores also depend on the course, with more technical subjects often requiring a better understanding of the language.
LSBU offers an excellent range of courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with many postgraduate students working alongside faculty on world-leading research projects. This demonstrates the quality of the staff, who are still actively involved in their respective fields and collaborate with other leaders worldwide, shaping the academic programs as they are taught.
Courses at LSBU are all developed and shaped in collaboration with industry professionals. The benefits of this are twofold – not only are students learning the skills and knowledge required to work in their field, but the company partners also know that graduates from LSBU are favourable candidates in future job applications.
All academic programs are taught using modern methods and with flexibility. Class sizes are kept small, so students can have their personal learning needs met by caring and motivated faculty teams. Guest lecturers often visit the university to broaden the opportunities and learning styles that students can benefit from.
