Ranked 21st in the Times Higher Education (THE) ‘Table of Tables’ 2017, and 22nd in The Guardian University Guide 2018,  we also gained the fourth highest score for overall student satisfaction in the 2016 National Student Survey. Our outstanding teaching was rated gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework. Based on the evidence available, the TEF Panel judged that the University of Kent delivers consistently outstanding teaching, learning and outcomes for its students. It is of the highest quality found in the UK.

97% of our research was found to be of international quality in the most recent Research Excellence Framework, an independent national survey of UK universities. Because our academics are engaged in world-class research and this informs their teaching, you have the chance to study with some of the most influential thinkers in your field.

As well as providing a first-rate academic experience, we want you to be in a good position to face the challenges of the global economic environment. We provide an award-winning Careers and Employability Service, Careers Advisers, and mentoring and work opportunities through JobShop. And these initiatives work: more than 96% of our students who graduated in 2016 were in work or further study within six months.

Inspirational Teaching and Academic Excellence

Kent is renowned for its teaching style; our academics have an outstanding ability to pass on their passion for study and debate. You will be challenged and encouraged, and develop as an independent thinker, capable of thriving in different situations. This approach is enhanced by the opportunity for you to attend numerous talks and workshops in related fields, allowing you to place your studies within a broader context.

Our postgraduate students further develop their skills by presenting work at research seminars, participating in conferences and publishing papers.

Kent equips you with the essential skills to give you a real advantage when it comes to getting a job. More than 96% of Kent students who graduated in 2016 were in work or further study within six months.

Our award-winning Careers and Employability Service can help you to plan your future career and put you in touch with our Alumni Careers Network. Our annual Careers Fair gives you the chance to meet with prospective employers to discuss graduate schemes, year in industry placements and internships.

In addition, JobShop, a service provided by the students’ unions at Kent, can help you find paid, part-time work. This helps you to develop skills and try out different areas of employment.

Go Abroad and Year in Industry

At Kent, as part of your degree, you can further extend your experience by spending time in another European country or elsewhere in the world. We have numerous destinations around the world including in: Europe, Asia, North and South America, Australia and South Africa. Whether you choose to study or to undertake a work placement, we’ll support you every step of the way.

Many of our degrees offer the opportunity to spend a year in industry or on professional placement, allowing you to gain the practical skills and life experience to stand out in a competitive global workplace. Employers are very keen to employ graduates who already have work experience. The year in industry can greatly enhance your job prospects by providing you with real commercial experience. It also allows you to evaluate a career path, and gain knowledge of the working environment.
