Portland Community College (PCC) is the largest post-secondary institution for tertiary education in Oregon. PCC is home to more than 400 international students from over 60 countries. As one of the top 20 community colleges in the US, PCC offers a high-quality education to its students.

Portland Community College prepares students for the workforce or transferring to four-year institutions. Students can graduate with a 2-year Associate degree, completing their first two years of a bachelor’s degree at PCC, then transfer to a college or university to complete the degree.
F-1 international students may be eligible for one year of OPT which allows F-1 international students to gain practical work experience in their field of study. PCC’s career services can provide a wide range of support services, including help finding jobs and internships, advice on what career to choose, and various job coaching activities. Students can get help building a winning resume, train for interviews, and focus their job search.

At Portland Community College, all students can access high-quality and affordable tuition. Tuition and fees are around half of what it costs to attend a public university in Oregon. Beginning a bachelor’s degree at PCC is more affordable than studying for a whole degree at university.
The college prides itself on being very affordable and offers partial scholarships for current students as well as part-time on-campus jobs and payment plans. The scholarship that PCC offers is for current students and ranges from USD 500-USD 2,500. The scholarship application process is once per year, and students will need to be enrolled in PCC to be eligible to apply. It usually takes place in the Winter term, and it applies for the Fall term.

International students must provide academic transcripts only if they have attended a school in the US.
Requirements for each course can differ depending on the subject and level of study, so it’s recommended that students check the relevant course page for the most up to date information. Some courses/programs may have pre-required courses and those may be taken at PCC as well.
Students do not need English language proficiency to attend PCC. All new international students take a placement test during Orientation. Depending on the score, students will take the appropriate English class to reach the necessary standard of English language ability.
Those who have proof of their English language proficiency may be exempt from the ESOL program.
In general, applicants should be turning 18 years of age in the first term they attend PCC, or older. However, the college does accept students aged 16 to 17 if certain requirements are met. Students should complete the Underage International Student Guardianship form and submit it during Orientation Week.
International students on an F-1 visa are eligible to study a range of courses at Portland Community College. Each learner’s ideal choice will depend on their academic progress so far, their English language ability, and the subject they want to study.
F-1 International students can study towards an associate degree at the college, which is an undergraduate degree lasting two to three years. It’s also possible to earn a certificate while studying for an associate degree.

Many resources and facilities help students with their daily life at PCC. Students can participate in one of over 100 clubs on campus. Student Engagement and Leadership offer resources, clubs, jobs, and activities for students to be engaged while studying at PCC.
International students can get help with their visa questions. The office’s friendly staff helps share important resources and opportunities for international students.
The OISS helps international students with the admissions process and preparing to study at PCC. They ensure students have a good start through the New International Student Orientation Week, held every term. They also host fun events to help international students get engaged.
The OISS places F-1 international at the heart of all its activities. It assists prospective international students in becoming current students, as well as helping current international students maintain their F-1 visas. OISS encourages international students to get involved in their college community.
