Students at all levels of study have access to personalized academic advising, career counseling, service learning, community engagement, and internships.
UNO’s dedicated career service, assists students in finding their calling. Free assessments help students gain insight into their goals while connecting them to career paths and internships. More than 500 employers participate in UNO career fairs, practice interviews, career panels, and on-campus recruiting annually. Most graduates (80 percent) report having one or more internships, practica, or jobs while attending UNO.
Approximately half of all international students extend their time in the U.S. working in their career field through Optional Practical Training after graduation.

Several scholarships and funding options are available to international students.
The International Academic Excellence Scholarship funds partial tuition costs for undergraduate international students, up to USD 6,000 annually. All newly admitted first-time and transfer students are automatically considered for the scholarship after admission. The average scholarship amount is USD 3,000 and is renewable for all years of the student’s academic program.
International graduate students are eligible to apply for research or teaching assistantships, which are awarded competitively. Students should contact their intended program or department for more information and application requirements. UNO has a straightforward application process for undergraduate students including an application, application fee, transcripts and proof of English proficiency. Undergraduate programs do not require SAT or ACT scores or a personal statement.
Graduate students have the above requirements, with the addition of some program-specific requirements that can be found online. Many master’s programs are test optional.
Proficiency in English is required for all international students at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). This is demonstrated through a variety of assessment systems, with requisite scores listed below:
Prospective students should note that UNO does not currently accept IELTS Indicator, TOEFL Essentials, or TOEFL MyBest Scores as English proficiency exams.
