Valencia College, located in Orlando, Florida, was named as one of the best community colleges in the United States having been awarded the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence.
The college is accredited by the Commission on Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). It is home to numerous international students and offers over 120 programs of study. Valencia offers two-year associate degrees, on completion of which students can move on to undergraduate university programs. The college also offers five bachelor’s degrees.
Valencia is based across eight locations. Campus facilities include libraries, green spaces for relaxing, labs with the latest technology and a Performing Arts Center. Indoor and outdoor cafes and other dining options are available on all campuses.
The college also offers smaller class sizes and excellent support resources. The International Student Services team assists students with admissions, immigration and academic support. The team also organizes employment workshops and other social events to help international students build cultural networks and settle down to campus life.
While the quality of Valencia’s education is equal to other Florida public universities, the tuition is 40 percent less. International students can find different on-campus and off-campus employment options based on their eligibility.
Annually, 13,000 students graduate from Valencia. The graduates of the college enjoy a 94 percent average job placement rate and an annual salary of around USD 44,000.
Every campus has a Career Center, where students can discover new and exciting career options. It supports them in matching their majors to their career choices, helping them to make the most of their time at Valencia College. The Career Center advises on what to do after studying, including transferring into further education, or applying for jobs. Students can get assistance with cover letters, resumes, and job techniques. The center can also help to place individuals into internships and work experience placements.
Valencia College has a 41 percent overall graduation rate, which is higher than the national average for community college students. It’s also one of the best in the nation for the total number of associate degrees awarded.
Those looking to transfer on from the college to a top-tier university to complete their bachelor’s degree will be in the right place. Almost a quarter of graduates from the University of Central Florida started out at Valencia, and Valencia students are given transfer priority access.
Students can also move straight into employment after their studies. Of those who obtained an Associate in Science degree, 94 percent found placements and gained an average annual salary of USD 43,644 (FETPIP 2015/6).
Valencia is never short of new developments, be it in course offerings, campus infrastructure, or many other areas.
International students can now pursue a bachelor’s in Computing Technology and Software Development. The program provides students with the opportunity to earn a degree which will prepare them to analyse software problems, plans, and solutions to design a logical plan for program requirements. The curriculum emphasizes practical, real-world problems.
International students can also pursue a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. The BASBOL program at Valencia College provides opportunities for professional growth and advancement. The hands-on degree gives students experience using the current best practices in the field, while also providing the essential skills for developing effective business plans.
Valencia College’s new campus opened in Downtown Orlando in August 2019. It puts students in the heart of Orlando Florida, providing the perfect mix of a vibrant lifestyle and amenities of a world-famous city.
The campus offers a wide range of programs in hospitality, health information technology, and digital media. It’s also the Walt Disney World Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts, with the campus featuring culinary teaching kitchens and classrooms, supplemented by state-of-the-art equipment and a pastry lab.
On-campus housing is available, so international students have a safe and secure area of residence. Easy access to bus routes, coupled with free bus fares for Valencia students, means students enjoy sports games, concerts, theatre performances and community events at nearby venues. Studying at Valencia College is a great way to save money on a U.S. education. Its tuition fees are 40 percent less than a Florida public university’s tuition, and are a fraction of the cost of many private schools. 90 percent of Valencia’s international students said the low cost of Valencia College was a factor in choosing to study there.
Tuition Instalment Plan - If students do not want to pay for their tuition and fees in one lump sum, they may enroll in the Tuition Instalment Plan, or ‘TIP’. This allows them to pay for tuition and book expenses over a period of time. There is no interest and no finance charges. The only additional cost is a small enrolment fee.
The enrolment fee, down payment, and number of payments will vary depending on when students register for classes and enrol in TIP. The sooner they enrol, the smaller their down payment and enrolment fees will be, and the longer time they’ll have to make payments.
There are a number of scholarships that Valencia’s F-1 international students are eligible for, including:
Valencia College Global Achievers Award - New and high-achieving international students can be supported with an award for their freshman year. It’s only open to applicants who haven’t been to college before. Students need a minimum 3.0 grade point average, and the amount of money awarded ranges from USD 500 to USD 2,500.
Valencia College Global Achievers Transfer Award - For new, high-achieving international college transfer students (worth USD 500 – 1000), it is based on merit achievement at college level. It is applied to the first term’s tuition and fees and is only available for students that have prior international college credits or who are transferring credits from a US college or university.
Valencia College Global Achievers Intensive English Transfer Award - Recognizing new and high-achieving international students who are exclusively transferring from Valencia’s Intensive English program. Worth USD 500 - 1000, it is applied to the first term’s tuition and fees.
Florida-Linkage Scholarships - Available to students from certain regions or countries, which partially cover tuition and fees. The awards cover the out-of-state portion of tuition and fees. Criteria for selecting scholarship recipients varies depending on the institute.
Valencia College Foundation - Privately funded scholarships that support current students. Once at the college, students can apply for the award.
Named one of the best community colleges in the United States, Valencia College is an excellent choice for international studies. It accepts new degree-seeking students each semester in fall, spring and summer. Students may submit their online application at any time. Valencia’s dedicated International Student Services staff are available to help international students throughout the entire admissions process.
Students can find a detailed list of all application requirements they’ll need to complete as part of the admissions process. Assistance is available at any point in the process.
International students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible in order to complete all requirements by the desired admission date.
The application deadline is the date that the online application and all supporting documentation must be received by the college in order to process admission for the desired semester. New students are encouraged to report to the college two to three weeks before classes start so that they can attend new student welcome events and register for classes.
Valencia College is widely regarded as one of the best community colleges in the United States and was the first winner of the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence. It offers students a top education at an affordable price, where they have the flexibility to study classes whenever they wish, day or night, seven days a week, at any of the campuses, or online.
The college has an average class size of 21 students, meaning that international students receive the dedicated attention they need while they are learning. Smaller class sizes make a huge impact when it comes to quality teaching and students get more one-to-one time with instructors, giving them the chance to have all of their questions answered. Additionally, teachers are available outside of the classroom, with many having extended office hours, so students can find the extra support they need.
At Valencia College, international students can choose from over 100 programs of study, including university transfer opportunities and career-focused programs.
The Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree in general studies is one of the most popular programs with international students. It teaches a basic liberal arts education, helping students get ready to transfer to university as a third-year (junior) student. It has many elective course options, so international students can work towards a specific major or study the areas that interest them most.
A.A. students can choose to follow a transfer plan, or they can select a pre-major. This helps them reach the upper division requirements needed for specific university majors.
The Associate in Science (A.S.) degree provides career-centered programs. They are designed to meet the needs of industry and are developed with guidance from top businesses and employers.
At Seneff Honors College, high-achieving students can pursue more challenging programs. There are four study options: Undergraduate Research, Global Studies, Leadership, and Interdisciplinary Studies. Classes are smaller in size than the college average, and offer benefits such as study abroad opportunities and the chance to transfer to University of Central Florida’s Burnett Honors College.
There are two intensive English language programs available for international students who need to improve their language abilities. Upon successful completion of the IEP to EAP Bridge Agreement, students can transfer to a Valencia degree program. Students can also study English online from their home country through the Virtual English Language Training (VELT).
