However, many students are not aware of the funding options available to them or feel they wouldn’t be eligible. We’ve done some investigative work and found five unusual scholarships and bursaries that you probably didn’t even know existed. Just a little research into scholarships could end up saving you a great deal of money.

1. Leverhulme Charity Bursary

Up to GBP 3,000 is available to UK students whose parents or spouse is a grocer, pharmacist or commercial traveller. The grant can only be used for official purposes including tuition fees, rent, living costs and study equipment.

2. The Vegetarian Resource Group Scholarship

This American scholarship is for students who support vegetarianism, offering USD 5,000 each to two students. The aim of the scheme is to promote being a vegetarian to influence the wider community. Applications are assessed on students’ demonstrable commitment to vegetarianism.

3. National Potato Council Scholarship

One scholarship of USD 10,000 is awarded each academic year to an American graduate conducting research relating to the US potato industry.

4. The Rolex Scholarship

Have a passion for diving? You could be eligible for university funding. There are three scholarships available in North America, Europe and Australasia as part of the Rolex scholarship. Chosen students will work with underwater experts for a year to gain experience for their related disciplines.

5. Esports Scholarship

If you consider yourself an avid video gamer, then this could be the scholarship for you. The University of Roehampton is awarding GBP 1,500 to those who can prove their commitment to esports. It seems playing video games isn’t a complete waste of time after all.
