DeakinTALENT’s Deakin International Student Careers (DISC) program was created to cater to the specific needs of international students. DeakinTALENT is ready to work with students from day one of their degree and can help them find part-time work while they study in preparation for future career success.

DeakinTALENT helps students gain relevant experience, write a strong resume, and prepare for their graduate job search in Australia or around the world. The careers and employment service organises a range of inspiring talks throughout the year where successful alumni share their experiences, challenges and success stories navigating the employment market and securing jobs.

DeakinTALENT also provides additional work experience opportunities through its FreelancingHUB, where students work on real projects for not-for-profit, community and government clients. These unique opportunities provide hands-on experience and help students build professional networks and invaluable transferable skills.

Deakin University unveils new Indonesia Campus in collaboration with Lancaster University

Deakin University, in collaboration with Lancaster University, expanded its global footprint in February 2025 with the launch of a new campus in Bandung, Indonesia. This innovative education partnership represents a significant milestone in transnational higher education, bringing Australian and British academic excellence to Southeast Asia.

The Deakin University Lancaster University Indonesia (DLI) Campus offers students the opportunity to earn dual undergraduate qualifications from two internationally renowned universities. Students also have the option to undertake a semester at Deakin in Australia, or Lancaster in the United Kingdom, enhancing their global perspective and international employability.

For Deakin’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Iain Martin, the partnership represents a unique opportunity for ‘a truly world-class academic experience’ where Deakin’s ‘reputation for balanced excellence in education and research’ combines with ‘Lancaster's strengths in research and transnational education delivery’.

With campuses now established in Australia, India and Indonesia, Deakin is demonstrating a commitment to delivering educational excellence across the globe. The DLI Campus reinforces the university’s position as a truly international university and widens the scope of its global study options.

Deakin announces alliance with Indian Institute of Technology Madras

Deakin has instituted a strategic research alliance with its partner of over a decade, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), to offer a joint PhD program in STEM designed for future-ready global leaders. With 30 scholarships on offer annually to eligible applicants, students at the IIT Madras – Deakin University Research Academy will work on world-leading, cross-disciplinary research that promises to make a difference in India, Australia and the rest of the world.

Scholarships & funding

Deakin believes that everyone should have the opportunity to go to university. That is why the university offers a range of scholarships to eligible high-achieving students to support them throughout the course of their studies.

These scholarships include the Deakin International Scholarship, which entitles a student to 25 percent off their tuition fee, and the Deakin Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship, which covers anywhere from 50 percent to the entire cost of tuition fees. Students who possess the necessary credentials, but miss out on the prestigious Deakin Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship, will automatically be considered for the Deakin International Scholarship.

In addition, Deakin offers course and campus-specific scholarships that include the Deakin STEM Scholarship and the Deakin Global Health Leaders Scholarship.

A scholarship from Deakin serves as a launchpad for international students to move ahead in their academic journey and, in turn, progress into a successful career.

Across every subject area at Deakin, students enjoy access to world-class facilities and resources.

Deakin engineering students benefit from cutting-edge digital manufacturing and 3D printing facilities at the university’s AUD 55 million state-of-the-art engineering precinct at the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus.

Meanwhile, students studying media at Deakin enjoy fantastic opportunities to refine their skills in the university’s industry-standard newsroom and creative media lab. There are also simulation centres where nursing students can practice treating patients in simulated clinical environments.

Student support

Deakin provides a comprehensive package of support services to ensure its students have a meaningful learning experience while at the university. International support services at Deakin range from pre-arrival orientation and welcome sessions to academic development services, dedicated social opportunities and much more. These are supplemented by the comprehensive range of health and wellbeing support services available through Deakin’s Student Central.

Deakin ensures that all new international students, many of whom have arrived in Australia for the first time, enjoy a smooth transition to living and studying abroad. Deakin’s welcome program includes an airport pick-up on arrival in Australia, as well as a range of orientation events that help international students embed themselves in campus life. Student mentors are also available to assist international students with academic, practical or social matters throughout their time at Deakin. Many student mentors are international students themselves. As a result, they know what it means to be new to Australia and can effectively help students adjust to academic and social life at Deakin.

Deakin is home to a wide range of sporting, academic and cultural clubs and societies. These communities empower students to build friendships and grow as future professionals.

Student safety

Deakin University promotes a diverse, inclusive and supportive environment through a variety of safety and wellbeing initiatives. It provides a range of support and security services that have been specially designed to help students stay healthy and safe while at the university.

To ensure the safety and security of all students, security officers are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week at all of Deakin’s campuses. The university also offers a dedicated Safer Community service that provides students with confidential advice, information and safety support should they require it. Additionally, all students have access to SafeZone, a free phone app that helps connect Deakin students directly to the university’s security team.

Deakin Medical Centres are located on all of the university’s campuses and offer a range of healthcare services that include nursing and medical advice. Consultations with nurses are free and confidential, and campus doctors bill through the Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).

The Disability Resource Centre (DRC) provides neurodivergent students, and those with a physical or mental health condition that impacts their experience of university life, with the adjustments and resources required to allow them to achieve their goals while at Deakin.
