I chose UNE Armidale to experience truly regional learning experience. It has amazing amenities to offer for international students. I would recommend to those students who wants to explore regional town of Australia acquiring world class education. There are plenty of opportunities to grow because of its extensive engagement events. I had pretty good experience with UNE's regional learning centers in different part of regional towns. Those who wants to explore these opportunities, I would suggest UNE would be your best place to thrive.

The main reason why I chose to study at New England was because of my course (agriculture) and its location. UNE is one of the best universities for agriculture. In addition, smart farms as well as commercial farms around Armidale offer great opportunities to develop more skills and gain knowledge. I, for instance, have the opportunity to work as a farm and research assisstant on one of the smart farms owned by UNE. This had helped me enourmously to enhance my knowledge, understand lecture material more easily and develop hands-on experiences which I wouldn‘t have had in Germany. I really enjoy studying at New England due to the teaching. It is very hands-on and interactive which motivates you and eases the learning process too. I‘m very glad I came to New England to study my masters in agriculture. Additionally, UNE offers several services, ranging from sport activities, different clubs to support services. I would definitely recommend New England since I’ve only had good experience.

I chose to study at the University of New England (UNE) because it offers the perfect mix of quality education, stunning scenery, and the kind of peaceful vibes you can only find in the countryside—plus, where else can you walk to class with kangaroos hopping by (don’t worry, they’re friendly and not at all dangerous)? Autumn here is especially magical; the campus transforms into a sea of gold and red leaves, making even 9 a.m. lectures feel poetic—almost. With its strong agricultural focus, supportive staff, and a community that actually feels like one, UNE has been the ideal place to grow—both academically and personally. And let’s be honest, it’s hard not to love a university where the biggest distractions are friendly kangaroos and falling leaves

Moving abroad has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life. Coming from Nepal and having studied in India, I was already familiar with living away from my family, but studying in Australia at the University of New England has helped me grow in ways I never expected, both personally and professionally. As an introvert, I used to be quite reserved and often hesitant to talk to people. Over time, I realized that staying within my comfort zone would only limit my opportunities to learn and grow. So, I challenged myself to step out of that shell and applied for leadership roles such as Student Ambassador, Residential Leader, and Secretary of the UNE Student Council. Through these experiences, I discovered that I genuinely enjoy leading, connecting with others, and making a positive impact within my community. Living and studying abroad has taught me independence, resilience, and adaptability. I have learned how to balance academic responsibilities, part-time work, and social life while developing strong communication and leadership skills. The most rewarding parts have been meeting people from diverse backgrounds, building confidence, and broadening my worldview. My advice to prospective students is to embrace every new experience, step beyond your comfort zone, and believe in your potential. Studying abroad is much more than achieving academic success; it is a journey of self-discovery and personal growth.

Moving from Nepal to UNE in Armidale completely changed my perspective on life. The journey started with a lot of excitement, but also real challenges. At first, I struggled with missing my family and adapting to new routines like cooking for myself and learning to budget. Over time, what felt hard became empowering; I learned just how strong and independent I could be when faced with obstacles. Being in a new country taught me resilience whether it was overcoming homesickness or handling academic pressure, I realized I can work through tough times, seek solutions, and ask for help when needed. The multicultural environment at UNE helped me build confidence. Speaking up in lectures, interacting with people from different backgrounds, and joining group activities became easier as I settled in. Meeting students from around the world expanded my view and helped me appreciate different perspectives, making me a more open-minded person.There were so many positives to my experience. UNE’s support for international students through academic assistance, events, and friendly staff made a huge difference. Living in Armidale was great; the community is welcoming, and I’ve made solid friendships from all over the globe. Being allowed to work part-time was also a bonus, helping me manage expenses while developing new professional skills. Plus, the peaceful and picturesque setting meant I could focus on my study and also enjoy downtime in nature. If you’re thinking of coming to UNE or moving abroad, my advice is to be open to change and step out of your comfort zone. Use the support services, get involved in campus life, join multicultural community don’t hesitate to ask for help, and don’t worry about making mistakes everyone’s learning together. Balance work and study, and make time to enjoy the experience, because the growth you achieve is definitely worth it. The confidence, skills, and memories you build aren’t just academic they shape who you are for life.

What are the five biggest challenges international students face when studying abroad?

One of the biggest challenges I faced as an international student was adjusting to a new environment. Finding suitable accommodation was a priority, and staying at Wright Village really helped me settle in. Another hurdle was adapting to academic expectations. Understanding assignment requirements, referencing styles, and participating confidently in class took time, especially since English isn’t my first language. Cultural adjustment and homesickness were also difficult. Being far from family and familiar traditions made the first few months emotionally challenging. Balancing part-time work with study was another major issue. While working helped financially, managing time between shifts and assignments was tough. Lastly, it took effort to understand university systems like how to access health support, apply for extensions, or seek academic help. My advice to new students: attend orientation, ask questions, connect with peers, and don’t be afraid to seek help. Things get better once you build a support network.

The foremost things to consider as an international student is accommodation when you arrive in regional university like UNE. University provided accommodations like wright village will help you to get all the resources from printing, study hall to sports and printing which is an important aspects as a student. I also would like to suggest making friends so that it will be easy to make study plan together.
