Ranking success.

Western Sydney University has once again, for the second consecutive year, been named number one in the world in the prestigious 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings. Over 1,700 institutions from 115 countries took part in the rankings.

The ranking assesses universities on their commitment to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) based on teaching, research, outreach, and stewardship.

The university is also ranked 31st in the world in the Times Higher Education 2021 Young University Rankings, – now ranking fifth in Australia and affirming its position as a modern and innovative university.

Entry requirements

Academic Entry Requirements

Students aiming to study at Western should demonstrate the requisite academic ability. Students are encouraged to consult the online handbook for entry requirements for particular degree programs, which may include the need to demonstrate relevant work experience.

English Language Entry Requirements

International student applicants are required to demonstrate the requisite level of English language proficiency in order to gain admission. For non-first language English speakers and for students who did not previously study with English as the medium of instruction (criteria applies), results and scores from an approved English proficiency examination must be supplied before a full offer is made.

Applying to Western Sydney University

Applications to Western can be made directly to the university or via an authorised university agent. Students making an application via the international office are able to obtain information pertaining to the minimum English language proficiency requirements by consulting the university handbook.

Applications to Western can be made online at UAC International if a student is completing one of the following qualifications one year prior to admission:

Australian year 12
International Baccalaureate
Australia or New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) level three

Western Sydney University also offer a range of scholarship opportunities. International students seeking admission to the University will be automatically considered for scholarships valued at AUD 6,000, AUD 3,000 or 50 percent of tuition fees. Scholarships are awarded on academic merit to eligible students.

Western Sydney University places a high priority on making sure all students feel safe, secure and happy while at the university. On campus, the campus safety and security team ensures a safe and secure environment for all students, staff and visitors. The team provides:

Emergency contact points on campuses have a 24/7 link to campus safety and security.

Western Sydney University Village offers 24-hour support for its residents, with a committed team of resident assistants, nightly security patrols and an evening duty manager. Particular areas are protected by electronic swipe card access as appropriate.

What is the international student community like at the university?

The international student community at Western is diverse and close-knit. Most of the international students I know are very interested in each other’s culture and open to experiencing it through events and celebrations, foods, and learning some words in the language. The international student community is huge, especially at our Parramatta campuses - you will never not see an international student in a day at campus during semester! Western Sydney University has a range of student clubs for these communities - if you cannot find a club of your country/ethnicity you can always start one! In fact, my friends and I did ☺️ The events held by these clubs are also open to all Western Sydney University students. For instance, you can still join any events held by the Indonesian Students Society even if you’re not Indonesian. Meet Indonesian students, learn the culture, taste their food, pick up one or two Indonesian words, or attend simply to have a wonderful time! Most, if not all, of the international students at Western will be happy to give you a hand if they can - be it giving you directions when you’re navigating our spacious campuses, leading you to the Student Services Hub or classes, recommending good coffee and sushi - you are in good hands 😊 Can’t wait to see you on campus so you can experience all this yourself!
