What will I learn?

You will join an active research community and work with academics, peers and partner organisations who have demonstrated research success in a range of specialities. In the field of mechanical engineering, areas of research include aerodynamics, alternative energy technologies such as solar cells, applied heat and mass transfer, conservation and renewable energy (CARE), combustion and fuels, and computational engineering, including computer-aided design (CAD), finite element analysis (FEA), and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Additional research strengths include dynamics and control, noise vibration harshness, engine and supercharger technologies, industrial and vehicle systems, sports engineering, vehicle design and crashworthiness, as well as virtual engineering and design. In manufacturing engineering, research areas span additive manufacturing, computer-integrated manufacturing, design for manufacturing, forming and machining technology, high-speed automation, operations, polymeric and composite product development, quality management in manufacturing, and advanced technologies such as robotics and laser systems.

Entry requirements

For international students

A bachelors degree requiring at least four years of full-time study in a relevant discipline awarded with honours. The degree should include a research component comprised of a thesis, other research projects or research methodology subjects that constitute at least 25 percent of a full-time academic year or part-time equivalent. The applicant must have achieved at least a distinction average in the final year. OR A masters degree that includes a research component comprised of at least 25 percent of a full-time academic year or part-time equivalent with an overall distinction average; OR A masters degree without a research component with at least a high distinction average.
