What will I learn?

Develop your advanced engineering skills and contribute to industry-focused biomedical research projects, identifying solutions to engineering problems that affect the human body.Through a higher degree by research in biomedical engineering, you will develop the advanced knowledge and skills to develop engineering solutions to health and medical conditions for patients, professionals and the healthcare workers that support them. At RMIT, you’ll enjoy access to leading researchers and facilities in biomaterials, biomechanics, medical electronics, signal processing and tissue engineering, helping to develop world-class solutions. You will have access to world-leading researchers and 3D-printing facilities such as the Digital Manufacturing Facility, the Micro Nano Research facility and the 3DBioFab/Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery, placing you at the interface of cutting-edge technologies and advances in biomedical science and engineering.During a higher degree by research in biomedical engineering, you will work at the cutting edge of industry needs, gaining the opportunity to immediately solve patient-specific problems highlighted by medical professionals. The School of Engineering has a large number of biomedical research partners developing everything from implant technology and speech signal processing to smart sensors for bionic technologies and tissue-engineered scaffolds. As part of this course, you will be encouraged to undertake research placements within our industry partners.You will be able to pursue an academic career in a university or be employed in senior leadership and management positions in government, scientific and industrial research laboratories.

Entry requirements

For international students

a bachelor degree requiring at least four years of full-time study in a relevant discipline awarded with honours. The degree should include a research component comprised of a thesis, other research projects or research methodology courses that constitute at least 25% of a full-time academic year (or part-time equivalent). The applicant must have achieved at least a credit average in the final year;
