Entry requirements

For international students

Prospective students to the Master of Music program must have completedA four-year undergraduate degree program in music with a minimum 3.0 GPA in the last two full years (60 credit hours) of study, orA conservatory diploma taken in residence; andAn online applicationTo be considered for the program, all prospective students must successfully pass the audition and must possess the stated requirements.Diagnostic examinationsStudents admitted to the M.Mus. or the M.A. (Music Research) program will write diagnostic examinations administered and evaluated by the faculty members of the DFOM, prior to the first day of fall-semester classes.These examinations assess the incoming student's background in music theory and musicology, and are used to determine if the student would benefit from supplementary preparation or assistance in order to be successful in courses from these areas.Please see the Graduate Theory Diagnostic (PDF) and Graduate Musicology Diagnostic (PDF) for details on suitable review materials.Second-language requirementsThe second language requirement has been removed as of Fall 2022.
