What will I learn?

Fanshawe’s award-winning Journalism-Multimedia program prepares you to be a creative and compelling multiplatform storyteller. What you learn in the classroom is put into practice in the newsroom at 106.9 The X. You’ll work as a multimedia reporter, newscaster, podcaster, broadcaster and digital content creator. If you’re interested in making a difference as a journalist, this two-year diploma program is for you. Graduates of Fanshawe's Journalism program have exciting media careers across the country and around the world. You gain hands-on experience as a storyteller and newscaster on the country's first-ever CRTC licenced college radio station. Students learn and develop the skills to gather and cover stories in the community, broadcast live, create multimedia articles on 1069TheX.com and share news on social media. The curriculum for this journalism program includes how to pitch a story, interviewing and reporting, audio production and video skills, digital and social media content creation, Almost 107 podcasting, research, media law and ethics, writing for on-air and online, newscasting and sportscasting, and storytelling on multiple platforms. Your industry-experienced professors care about your success. They have the news industry connections to help you get started in a career that matters. You’ll apply your skills through an internship within the final term to gain additional media experience, make professional contacts, and have the chance to get hired on full-time. The skills you gain in this multimedia journalism program cross over into communications work and entrepreneurial opportunities.

For international students

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, or a mature applicant with the following courseGrade 12 English (C or U)Students who do not meet the admission requirements are recommended for academic upgrading. A conditional offer may be possible with proof of enrolment. Alternatively, applicants missing the required courses may want to consider our one-year Pre-Media Preparatory Program.
