What will I learn?

Geography and Earth Science research at the University of Hull is renowned for its international scope and relevance across human and physical geography and geology. Specialisms at Hull include mass extinction research; simulating water and sediment flows on flood plains and Mars; environmental policy and governance; and mapping the historic connections between women’s property ownership and status.

We are a world-class centre of excellence for interdisciplinary research into, and postgraduate study of both human and physical environments, as well as earth science. We also offer opportunities for multidisciplinary research between geography and other subject areas at PhD level.

We offer research opportunities as MSc by Thesis in Physical Geography, MA by Thesis in Human Geography, as well as PhD options in the research areas of your choice, providing we can match you up with a supervisor whose area of expertise matches your proposal.

Entry requirements

For international students

You should normally have, or expect to obtain, at least 2:1 Honours degree (or international equivalent) in a related subject. This course requires academic IELTS 6.0 overall, with no less than 5.5 in each skill. TOEFL iBT: 78 overall with at least - Reading 10, Listening 9, Speaking 17, Writing 19.
