What will I learn?

The Applied Linguistics and TESOL team, within the Department of English, conducts research in areas such as English for Academic Purposes (EAP), Second Language Acquisition (SLA), Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL), corpus linguistics and discourse analysis. We aim to support world-leading work in all these areas and to foster and develop strategic partnerships with local, national and international organisations.IntroductionThe Applied Linguistics and TESOL team has an outstanding international reputation. We conduct research in all areas of our field, including English for Academic Purposes (EAP), Second Language Acquisition (SLA), Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL), corpus linguistics, interlanguage pragmatics and spoken discourse.Our TESOL master’s degrees are taught by experts in fields such as spoken discourse, Second Language Acquisition (SLA), pragmatics, corpus linguistics and English for Academic Purposes (EAP). We also have expertise in other aspects of language study including sociolinguistics, discourse analysis and stylistics.
