What will I learn?

Finance is a rigorous and highly respected field of study that prepares students for many career options. The flexible tracks offered within the finance major allows students to tailor their coursework to open additional career opportunities in banking financial analysis financial planning and corporate finance. Finance majors study the theory structure and techniques for making decisions in the financial environment. These decisions include the acquisition of funds by business firms and the capital budgeting decisions that utilize these funds. Finance also includes the applied areas of investment analysis investment banking trading market microstructure commercial banking and financial institutions management international finance and real estate. The Department of Finance Insurance and Real Estate FIR at the University of Memphis is one of six departments within the Fogelman College of Business Economics which is the only business college in the Memphis area fully accredited by the prestigious AACSB. The UM Finance degree is also nationally and internationally recognized by the CFA Institute and the CFP Board as fulfilling their respective educational requirements through the specified set of approved courses to sit for the Chartered Financial Analyst CFA or Certified Financial Planner CFP exams. Finance and Real Estate concentration are available on campus as well as online.

Entry requirements

For international students

All students both freshmen and transfer must apply online for admission undergraduate students. Review application deadlines. Freshman admission is competitive and based upon a comprehensive review of the students academic record. The primary factors include the high school secondary grade point average and demonstrated English proficiency.Transfer admission is competitive and based upon the cumulative grade point average of all previously attended colleges universities international and domestic. Your cumulative GPA must be at least a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale for consideration. Demonstrated English proficiency is also required of all international applicants.Pay the non-refundable undergraduate application fee of USD 50.Applicants should upload a copy of their official international transcript or marks sheet high school secondary or college university to their application portal.Admission Requirements by CountryThe Office of Undergraduate Admission and Orientation will conduct an initial assessment of your international transcriptmarks sheet for admissions review. Receipt of official transcriptmarks sheet will be required prior to enrollment.After the application fee has been paid and all high school or college transcripts have been uploaded review of the undergraduate application will begin. While the review period may vary on average applicants will be notified by email of a decision within 5-7 business days.
