What will I learn?

The Bachelor of Fine Arts BFA Degree in Design Technical Production at the University of Memphis is a program specifically designed for students whose interests and abilities strongly suggest potential for pursuing careers as artists for the professional theatre and entertainment industries. The curriculum is structured to introduce students to all aspects of theatre while growing towards a specialization. Students learn from dedicated faculty often as apprentices and have ample opportunities to produce realized work. The variety and nature of the resources available to student artists are of professional caliber allowing the motivated student to develop the skills necessary for a career in theatre. The Department of Theatre Dance launched a new comprehensive design curriculum in the Fall of 2017 with the goal of matching skills to industry expectations and the growing role that technology will play in the 21st century. The design pedagogy at The University of Memphis fosters the development of our students on an individual basis allowing each student develop a designer s eye and the craft skills necessary to creating professional level productions. Smaller class sizes provide students individual attention to help develop an effective design process engage advanced technology and determine the most appropriate design tools for a given project. Production opportunities in our performance spaces extend the classroom experience linking process with practice.

Entry requirements

For international students

All students both freshmen and transfer must apply online for admission undergraduate students. Review application deadlines. Freshman admission is competitive and based upon a comprehensive review of the students academic record. The primary factors include the high school secondary grade point average and demonstrated English proficiency.Transfer admission is competitive and based upon the cumulative grade point average of all previously attended colleges universities international and domestic. Your cumulative GPA must be at least a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale for consideration. Demonstrated English proficiency is also required of all international applicants.Pay the non-refundable undergraduate application fee of USD 50.Applicants should upload a copy of their official international transcript or marks sheet high school secondary or college university to their application portal.Admission Requirements by CountryThe Office of Undergraduate Admission and Orientation will conduct an initial assessment of your international transcriptmarks sheet for admissions review. Receipt of official transcriptmarks sheet will be required prior to enrollment.After the application fee has been paid and all high school or college transcripts have been uploaded review of the undergraduate application will begin. While the review period may vary on average applicants will be notified by email of a decision within 5-7 business days.
