What will I learn?

The Primary PK-5 major leads to a Bachelor of Science in Education degree. Approved by the Ohio Department of Education, this program prepares graduates to teach students in grades PK through 5th in all content areas. In addition to meeting requirements of the Miami Plan, students take courses in Teaching, Curriculum, & Educational Inquiry Educational Leadership Kinesiology, Nutrition, and Health Family Science and Social Work and Educational Psychology. Our goal is to produce passionate teachers who can deliver high-quality, developmentally appropriate instruction to help children achieve life-long academic and social success. Our Primary Ed. program gives you more classroom experiences than most universities. We utilize a cohort-based approach to teaching methods and pedagogy courses. The courses required for this program will prepare you to earn your teaching license and immediately enter the field of education. You’ll extend your learning way beyond the classroom to every area of your life. Students participate actively in a variety of classrooms and communities, culminating in a 15-week, full-time student teaching experience in which they work closely with mentor teachers. In addition to licensure for teaching pre-kindergarten through grade 5, graduates of this program may work in a variety of settings involving young people, such as non-profit social service agencies, children’s hospitals, court services for youth, museums, recreational programs, and child care settings. Additionally, students who obtain additional education may choose to pursue roles in educational administration.

Entry requirements

For international students

Basic requirements for admission as an international student to a bachelor's degree program include the following: Completion of formal secondary education in a pre-university curriculum. Completion must include the awarding of a diploma or the issuance of a leaving certificate or matriculation certificate generally recognized as the educational qualification necessary for admission to higher studies. English language ability at a level sufficient to undertake a full course of study. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Testing (ACT) scores (if applicable). International students are not required to provide an ACT or SAT score, but they may use the ACT or SAT to satisfy English language proficiency requirements. Copy of Passport or National ID card. All international applicants and international students who are visa holders in the US must also provide a copy of their current visa or immigration status.
