Alcohol and drug abuse is a growing epidemic that requires licensed specialists in the field. After completing the certificate, students will have the knowledge and ability to apply the ethical standards of the profession. This certificate is for individuals who wish to become certified in substance abuse counseling without completing a formal degree program. On completing the required 20 semester hours of courses, students may take the Certified Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor exam through the Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association.

Entry requirements

For international students

Students must have completed a bachelors degree who are applying for a masters or doctoral degree Students must complete an application to the university and have official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended submitted to the Office of Admission Full admission to graduate studies may be granted to students who have earned a baccalaureate degree with a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 2.50 on a 4.00 scale from any institution of higher education regionally accredited by the North Central Association or any of the seven regional accrediting organizations
