What will I learn?

The Composition Musicology and Theory area includes two courses of study for music majors Theory and Composition and Musicology. Theory and Composition focuses on knowledge aural training and analytical skills as a basis for composition and scholarly work. Musicology focuses on the concept and practices of music in different cultures and historical contexts. The University of Memphis offers a course of study in ethnomusicology that focuses on the musical traditions of the southern United States. General Studies in Music courses are designed to give non music majors a wider view of the place of music in the world. Degrees offered within the area include the Bachelor of Music Music History Composition Master of Music Composition Musicology Doctor of Musical Arts Composition and Doctor of Philosophy Historical Musicology Southern Regional Studies

Entry requirements

For international students

Baccalaureate Degree The applicant must provide an unofficial transcript showing that a U.S. bachelors degree or its equivalent was awarded by an accredited college or university or is expected to be awarded within one term. If accepted to the University of Memphis the student must provide an official transcript by the end of their first semester. In addition transcripts from any other college or university attended may be requested. Only transcripts received directly from an issuing institution are considered official. Personal copies are not acceptable as official documents. If you are a UofM undergraduate student applying to Graduate School at UofM you do not need to request that an official transcript be sent to Graduate Admissions. 2.75 4.0 cumulative GPA. Departments may set higher standards.
